On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the west; two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany, beginning World War II

Baden Powell visits Drum Hill Camp

11th July 1937

Scouts at the Drum Hill camp with Baden Powell in the middle. Scouts from 63rd lined the route as Baden Powell arrived at the camp. Approximately 1000 Scouts attended the camp. Baden Powell received deeds of the land from Dr. H. H. Bemrose for Derby & Derbyshire Boyscouts Association.

World War 1 commences

7th Derby Scouts – formed in 1909

Believed to be the first Troop in Darley Abbey, formed in 1909 the 7th Derby Scouts troop. They met at Mile Ash House, Duffield Road. It is thought that this troop ceased during WW1. Note: Semaphore flags carried by 3rd Scout from left. Appears to be in Darley Park
