Every three years the District organises a themed Beaver Bonanza open to all Beavers in Derbyshire.
This year’s theme was “Storylands” incorporating fun activities based on four different children’s authors – Dahl, Disney, Rowling and Grimm.
Ten of our Beavers attended the event and all received a souvenir goody bag and badge.
In Dahl land, they had a go at “Wonka’s crazy obstacle race”, the aim of the game was to be the fastest to win a golden ticket. Extreme fun was had making “Georges marvellous medicine” and watching the volcanic eruption within the bottles (luckily none of them drunk it to grow into giants!!!!). This was followed by witch’s splat (archery), face painting and dream catchers finishing off Dahl land.
Disney land had its own thrills with a “Flushed Away sewer”…….well the legendary Drum Hill Black hole in which the Beavers had to crawl around a completely dark maize with just one torch, almost lost a few Beavers there!!! Fast learning was required on the “Aladdin’s magic carpet ride” where the Beavers had to control an amazing magic carpet down a short course…. yippee!! They took on the role of the aliens from Toy Story to control the “Toy Story Claw” and had fun with “Winnie the Pooh races”. Crafty tasks included making a Captain Hook sword plus hook and creating Nemo land in an egg carton.
After lunch Rowling land offered anything Harry Potter, turning our Beavers into Potter look-a-likes making glasses, capes, wands and marauders maps…. eat your heart out Harry!!! Adventure was had in the form of a “Golden Snitch hunt”, “Quidditch training assault course” and a “haunted wood target practice” using water blasters.
Moving onto Grimm land they bounced their life away on a “fairy-tale bouncy castle ” guided each other around a blind assault course and toasted a marshmallow on an open fire.
Overall a fantastic fun day was had by all……..leaders included!!!!!
